Ron DeSantis made a key point in his concession speech that we all need to be paying attention to: He was never going to be president because GOP voters want more of Donald Trump.
Make no mistake, the Republican Party would have loved to have put Ron DeSantis forth as its chosen candidate. He checks a lot of Republican boxes, and he is certainly more polished than Donald Trump. He comes with a level of political experience that Donald Trump lacks. He doesnât come with all the unnecessary baggage that Trump is dragging with him. Heâs smarter and heâs savvier than Trump. Heâs a Yale graduate with a Harvard law degree. He could have been a contender, and at the beginning of his campaign, many considered him to be the biggest threat to a second Donald Trump presidency.
The problem is, Republican voters want Donald Trump, and the GOP voters â not the GOP itself â are the loudest voices on that front.
While the GOP could be said to consist mainly of rich and powerful white men, the GOP voter base is a mixed bag of rich and powerful white men, racist white people, uneducated white people and indoctrinated white people who believe their demise is nigh unless they ensure white supremacy is allowed to continue to exist unfettered. At the center of the Venn diagram where all of these groups come together is Donald Trump.

LinkIt is important for any discussion of reparations to include the ongoing and lasting impact of the legacy of slavery, but we cannot allow the conversation to be derailed by those who seek to whittle it down to the simple act of the enslavement of Black people.
Those people are either oblivious, willfully obtuse or flat-out disregarding the lasting impact the enslavement of Black people in America has left behind.
Itâs not just about people being treated like chattel. Itâs about the ways in which America has continued to do its best to subjugate an entire group of people who played one of the biggest roles in the building of this âgreat nation.â

LinkThis is a story about Florida.
Iâve written before about the anti-Blackness being fostered in the Sunshine State; their governor, Ron DeSantis, is leading the charge by legislating anti-Black racism and all other kinds of bigotry in the state.
It is especially egregious when anti-Blackness is targeted at innocent Black children.
Let me explain.
In case you missed it for whatever reason, Bunnell Elementary School in Flagler County, Florida â a school district already notorious for their low test scores â pulled all of its Black fourth and fifth graders into an assembly late last month where they were shown a PowerPoint presentation that blamed them for the schoolâs low scores on state standardized tests.
The children were told that if they didnât bring the test scores up, they would likely end up in jail, dead, or shot to death.
Never mind that Black students make up only 14% of the student population at Bunnell. In a school where white students make up 60% of the student body, only 32% of students are meeting or exceeding the required measurements on state assessments. That ainât the Black kidsâ fault.
These details didnât matter, however, as even Black students who were meeting or exceeding the metrics were pulled into the assembly.
No other students in the school were made to attend such a presentation or spoken to about the low test scores.
It was racist, and itâs OK for us to call it racist. To not acknowledge the inherent racism and implicit bias in this incident is to spit in the faces of the Black children who endured this injustice.
Parents of the Black students said their children were traumatized by the assembly â especially the part where they were told they would be âshot deadâ if their scores didnât improve.

They use it like some sort of âgotcha!â to derail any type of discussion on race, racism, or racial justice.
Never mind that the entire construct of race was conceptualized by white people in order to make themselves âsuperiorâ over everyone else.
They donât want to talk about that part. Instead, they would rather use a twisted form of DARVO to make a villain out of anyone who brings up racism, white supremacy, white privilege, or whiteness. In their eyes, the problem isnât racism, white supremacy, white privilege or whiteness; the problem is that we âdarkiesâ wonât stop talking about it.
Their skin is so thin, and their egos are so fragile, that they have to legislate not talking truthfully about race and racism in order to create an environment where whiteness, white supremacy, and racism can exist and thrive unchecked.
Tory Lanez Has Been Convicted And Sentenced, Yet Megan The Stallion Is Still Being Attacked
LinkOne of the biggest lies out there is that Megan reported Tory to the police or pressed charges against him. The narrative is that the fact that this went to trial at all is Meganâs fault, and that is categorically false.
On the night of the shooting, residents in the area called the police when they heard the disturbance happening in and outside of a car Megan was riding in with Tory and others.
When police arrived on scene, Megan did not tell them she had been shot. Instead, she indicated that she had stepped on glass and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Tory Lanez was arrested and given a felony concealed weapon charge. Even after she was treated at the hospital, Megan didnât tell police Lanez shot her.Â
When video of the incident began circulating online, Megan clarified that she had in fact been shot, but she still did not say it was Lanez who had done it.Â
LAPD was initially unable to press charges against Lanez for the shooting because none of the witnesses, including Megan, were cooperating with their investigation.

Black People Have Been Having A Time With The âFade In The Waterâ
LinkAt the end of it all, multiple people were arrested â including the white men who started it in the first place after they were identified by people in the crowd watching,
Since it was all caught on video, hopefully they wonât escape accountability for their actions.
Because thatâs really what all of this boils down to, and thatâs whatâs really driving the pure joy Black people are experiencing in this moment â accountability.
You see, accountability is like kryptonite to whiteness. Whiteness is quick to deflect when itâs in the wrong, but that same whiteness will demand accountability for Black people at every stop. Itâs a weird type of cognitive dissonance none of us have been able to figure out yet.Â
As Black people, we have to defend our humanity on a daily basis in America. Whiteness is a privilege that is wielded over us heavily on a daily basis in all parts of our lives. Black people canât eat, sleep, walk down the street, go to the pool, play in the park with their children, or do relatively anything without their words and actions being policed by white people.
And because of whiteness, there are white people who believe they donât owe any respect to Black people in positions of authority.
Witnessing a group of white people get their comeuppance for disrespecting and physically attacking a Black man who was simply doing his job is the smallest and sweetest of victories, and baby? We will take it.

LinkâThis situation is really driving me crazy and making me sick,â Betty said. âWe have never been in this situation before.â
âWe came to this country to make a better life for our kids,â she continued. âWe are not thieves. Just because we are poor doesnât mean we are thieves.â
Betty said Michael had to stay home from school for a few days because of the mental anguish of the incident and all that has come after it.
âAs a mother, you donât want to see your child like that,â she said.
Betty said she was horrified when she first saw the video.
âMy reaction when I saw it was âoh my God. I almost lost my son in that moment.â Do you understand me? I am not from here, but we all know this country,â she said. âBut how the policemen here do our sons, and our husbands, and our fathers. They kill us.â

StandardItâs really funny the way white people get all up in arms about one of their own being dragged through the media, but they have no issue with it when itâs a Black victim having their past dredged up in the wake of their murder ala Jordan Neely. The hypocrisy is blinding and white.
Adding to the madness is a follow-up article from the New York Post in which they claim to have receipts sent to them by Justin Marino, an employment lawyer defending Sarah Jane Comrie to help her keep her job with NYC Health + Hospitals (NYC H+H).Â
Marino claims the alleged receipts prove that Comrie rented the bike first and it was immediately put back in the rack one minute later, and then she rented another shortly thereafter.
The Post follow-up was written after Marino sent a letter in response to their original article.

She understands that as a white woman, she is always going to be viewed as the victim in any situation. She knows that white comfort is always prioritized over everything else. She is aware that if she makes a loud enough scene, some white man or a cop will come flying in to ârescueâ her.
Itâs what she wanted.

Bryant, who died two weeks ago on April 25, should have been tried in Emmett Tillâs murder, but she never was. She died of old age â a luxury she denied Emmett Till.
